Easy listening: Try out this “somatic sampler”

Curious about somatics movements, but not really sure what’s involved or if it’s for you?

Here’s an audio sampler.

I recorded two basic movements that we often do in my Balance Somatics classes - Arch and Release and Flatten and Release. Remember to make your movements small and gentle. Take time to notice, sense and feel your muscles lengthening and releasing all the tension as you come back to neutral.

I start with a soma scan at the beginning and end of each session. (Remember, soma means body in Latin!) While your soma scan can take any form, they all have the same purpose of increasing inside-out awareness. You can stand in one place, walk around, sit or lie down on a mat. It all works!

Then just close your eyes and listen. Let your muscle tension dissolve…

Becoming more aware of what’s happening inside our bodies is a gradual journey — an exploration that takes time before we truly achieve deep awareness.

Try to avoid judging yourself, and just let things evolve. We’re all unique.

Just be.
