Eventually our brain tells the muscles to clench as an ongoing habit. That’s where somatics comes in.
Soma is Latin for “body” - and an inside-out approach to retraining your brain to release muscle tension. It’s gentle, it’s pain-free, and it works.
Allow me to get a little technical. Somatics is a form of neuromuscular re-education - meaning, retraining the nervous system around your muscle. And it’s based on neuroplasticity - meaning, the brain’s ability to form and reorganize synaptic connection especially in response to an injury or learned behaviour, like slouching or letting our shoulders creep up to our ears.
When we do slow and gentle somatic movements - getting our brain back in touch with our bodies - we are growing new neural pathways in the brain that help us stay vital and flexible regardless of age.
